Art Together
(20 mos. - 4 yrs. w/adult)
1 Hour
Fall Schedule
A nurturing first introduction to art for children and caregivers alike! Little ones can explore paints, glue, collage, sculpture, building and craft doughs to their heart's content, while adults are offered guidance in how to observe and support their creative experiences. Adults are encouraged to take a "hands off" approach to the artwork, allowing children to create on their own. Each 1-hour class includes creative play, a hello song, easel painting, weekly project and a goodbye song. Simple routines are introduced as children are ready. We emphasize process over product, and getting messy is a big part of the fun!

Crazy Concoctions
(Grades K-1)
1-1/2 Hours
Fall Schedule
Mushy and messy creative explorations for the child who loves to get their hands goopy! Children will brew recipes for all sorts of paints, clays, blubbers and slimes, and other marvelous art mixtures, all the while learning about the properties of ingredients and what they can do when combined. Children will have the chance to play nutty professor, create their own concoctions and play with them all!

Creating With Books
(3 1/2 - 5 yrs)
2 Hours
Fall Schedule
A preschool class based on books, designed for the already "separated" child. Structure is similar to that of the Creative Arts Explorations, but class activities will be themed around different picture books, chosen especially for their beautiful illustrations and storylines. Children will listen to, act out, do art projects based on and use all their senses to explore and experience stories- all the while developing their ability to express themselves along with their love of literature.

Creative Arts Explorations
(3-1/2 - 5-1/2 yrs)
1-1/2 Hours
Fall Schedule
Children's imaginations are at the forefront of this class as they explore art & craft media, art-related stories, games and construction toys. Open-ended activities stimulate creativity, develop problem solving skills, encourage fine motor development, and foster independence. As the session progresses, some projects may carry over from week to week, and collaborative experiences will be introduced. Each class includes creative free play, easel painting, weekly projects, snack (provided by family) and story. A wonderful time and space for children to creatively unwind after pre-K or Kindergarten!

Science Magic
(Grades 1-3)
1-1/2 Hours
Fall Schedule
Children are natural scientists, questioning and figuring out how the world around them is put together. For the young Einstein or Madame Curie who constantly wonders "WHY?", hands on experiments, independent construction and "inventions" time, collaborative "puzzles" and projects will be used to introduce children to the process and spirit of scientific inquiry. Explore the underlying concepts behind the "magic" of magnets, chemistry, physics, color and light, optical illusions, mirrors, plant and animal life cycles and other fascinating aspects of the world we live in. Alongside planned curricular activities, they are always invited to test out theories and create inventions of their own design. Topic areas change with each session. Fall 2010: Human Body & Senses

Seeing Through Artists' Eyes
(Gr. 1-3)
1-1/2 Hours
Fall Schedule
Hands-on art appreciation for children to discover the method and spirit in which their art is made. They will have the opportunity to talk about and compare different kinds of art styles and movements from around the world, and to experiment with new ways of seeing and expressing themselves. Children will create their own unique artwork using the methods and ideas of famous artists as a springboard. Topics and artists change each session. Fall 2010: Ancient Art

Separation Class
(2 1/2 - 3 1/2 yrs)
2 Hours
Fall Schedule
A loving and supportive art class for children (and mommies!) that helps to develop independence, self-esteem, self-expression and socialization with other children and adults. Routines and activities are similar to Art Together, but expanded to 2 hours to include snack (provided by family) and storytime. As soon as children feel comfortable, parents are encouraged to leave the classroom, with the expectation that they will be able to leave the classroom for the entire time before the end of the session. Because every child and parent separates in their own way and time, each classroom experience is very individualized to meet children's specific needs. Children may enroll in more than one Separation class per session.
