INFORMATION FOR MUSIC TOGETHER PARENTS
If you've never taken a Music
Together class before, (or if you have) you're in for a real treat!
Below is some info to ease your way, help the classes run more smoothly and
successfully, and answer some of your questions
Class size:
Class size is normally a maximum of 12 registered
children, which is what Music Together recommends. We make every effort to
keep it that way. Occasionally, people bring unregistered
guests or siblings without first clearing it with us at Not Just
Art. PLEASE DON'T DO THIS! If you feel a class is too crowded,
please mention it to your teacher or to us at Not Just Art. We'll try to fix
it.
Mixed-age Groupings: There will be children of
all ages between Birth and 4 years in your class. This is purposeful
and part of the uniqueness of Music Together. In rare instances,
there is a class where the chemistry is off, or the grouping just
doesn't work for some reason. Please speak with us if you have
concerns. We can explain the sound educational philosophy behind
this practice, and can provide you with more reading on the subject,
if you wish.
Tapes, Songbooks, Guides:
You will be receiving a tape, songbook and CD. New families will
receive a Parent Guide as well. There is a wealth of information in
these materials, and if you use them, they will greatly enhance your
and your child's experience here.
Your child's/Your participation: One of the
major goals of Music Together is to involve parents/caregivers in
the music-making and to have them enjoy the songs at home as well as
in class. We do not expect your child to participate/perform in
class, but we do expect you to participate and be a model for your
child, even if you do not feel confident about your own musical
abilities. If your child sees you making music and having a great
time, then he/she is more likely to develop that disposition, which
can only be transferred by a primary caregiver. And don't worry -
it's FUN to be here! So relax, let your child "be" and enjoy
yourself.
Safety: We have tried to make our space as safe
as possible, with rubber floors, etc. But our space is not entirely
childproofed. And as we know, toddlers do not have the control over
their bodies or their impulses that they will later on. So we ask
that each adult consider their class grouping as one big family, and
look out for all the children, no matter who they belong to. If you
see someone about to topple on top of another child, or run into
them - and their mom isn't there to make the save, please help.
Everyone will be grateful.
